Cognism is a leader in providing accurate and compliant contact data across global markets, including the largest and the most accurate database of cell phone numbers. It lets you find and contact prospects in your ICP. 

Clearbit, on the other hand, focuses on providing B2B data enrichment and enrichment APIs to improve existing customer data. It also helps identify buyer intent thanks to uncovering anonymous website visitors.

In a recent satisfaction survey, software buyers who recently evaluated data enrichment tools scored Cognism higher than Clearbit.

Data collection and verification

The main difference between Cognism and Clearbit’s data lies in cell phone numbers availability and EMEA coverage.

  • Cognism’s database includes B2B emails, direct dials, and 2x more mobile numbers in the US than other providers. Cognism also provides a premium manually-verified mobile numbers dataset and verification service on demand.
  • On the other hand, Clearbit’s database features over 50 million company records and 389 million contact records. The vendor focuses on delivering email addresses and company phone numbers. But it appears Clearbit doesn’t supply prospects’ mobile numbers.
  • Cognism has great data coverage in the US and an industry-leading EU dataset. It makes Cognism a great solution for US-based companies with European locations. Reviews left on G2 in 2019 and 2023 suggest Clearbit’s EMEA dataset could be better.

Clearbit vs Cognism’s pricing

Pricing for Clearbit products is based on CRM and database size, monthly web traffic, or contact creation. Custom quotes are provided on request.

Cognism prices its licences per user, and their cost depends on your required workflow. Cognism offers two licence types:

  • Licence to support individual prospecting, allowing for unrestricted* views and individual and page-level exports of contact information (no credits are used in this process).
  • Licence for large organisations that require list-building and bulk-exporting data.

All Cognism packages include emails, mobile numbers, firmographic data, technologies, and sales trigger events. The data is visible from the get-go, allowing users to make informed decisions when exporting data to their systems.

In addition to this, you can add intent data (powered by Bombora) and Diamond Data® (Cognism’s manually-verified mobile dataset) and Diamonds-on-Demand® (research on demand service) to your package. None of the Clearbit alternatives offers a similar service.

Compliance status

Clearbit is CCPA-compliant and “aligned with GDPR principles”. Cognism is a CCPA and GDPR-compliant B2B data provider.

One key differentiator between Cognism and other providers is that Cognism scrubs all mobile numbers against more no-not-call-lists:

  • TPS/CTPS lists in the UK.
  • DNC lists in the USA, Canada, Australia and European countries, including Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, Belgium, Croatia, Portugal and Sweden.

If a number is marked as TPS or DNC, it means that the user has opted out from receiving unsolicited phone calls by applying to the national do-not-call registry. 

Cognism hides contacts that are on DNC lists, meaning that its customers have complete confidence in the legality of their outreach.

Why is DNC cleaning important?

The Information Commissioners’ Office (ICO) has issued fines totalling £180,000 for two companies that made more than 480,000 unlawful marketing calls to businesses signed up with the UK’s “Do not call” register.

Intent data: Clearbit or Cognism

Both Clearbit and Cognism provide buyer intent data, but they implement it differently. 

The Cognism platform embeds Bombora’s Company Surge® intent data. You can add it to your Cognism package.

Bombora’s intent data shows which organisations are actively researching online and when research on a particular topic increases in a business’ activity. The spike in interest around that topic indicates the prospective organisation is actively looking for a product or service.

Intent-based prospecting means you can find organisations in your ICP that are ready to buy. Cognism dynamically enriches the intent data with the key decision-makers and their contact details, allowing for highly targeted prospecting.

Clearbit has a feature that shows intent on your website visitors or from partners like G2 and Bombora. Clearbit Reveal tells you when the companies you care about are ready to buy based on when they view your pricing page or frequent product page views.

Integrations

Both providers have a wide range of integrations with other sales tools, ie. Salesforce or HubSpot.

The main differentiator between Cognism vs Clearbit is LinkedIn integration. Clearbit doesn’t currently offer integration with LinkedIn. And Cognism’s browser extension is designed for sales reps’ workflows, including prospecting on LinkedIn.
